Not Quite What I was Expecting. September 8, 2010 The Three Woods (USA proud to be an American) From all the reviews I had been reading, I expected the most perfect floor steamer for my home. With great enthusiasm, I unpacked my steamer ready to use it as soon as I read through the instructions. I'm a stickler about following the directions to the letter to make sure a product works exactly the way it was designed. Happily, I flipped through the instruction booklet thankful that it was very clear on proper use. My husband assembled the floor steamer for me and we were ready to go. When I first placed it on its floor protector (cooling) pad, I noticed the handle was a little flimsy. My husband checked to make sure it was properly tightened and set it back on the cooling pad. Once it heated up the required minutes, I picked it up to use it. I noticed immediately that it didn't glide so well across our laminate floors. Several times the wand detached from the unit - not so great considering the machine is VERY HOT to the touch once you've let it heat up and I had to carefully reattach it. Thankfully my floors were not ruined despite the warning that the steamer cannot be in place more than 15 seconds. I am not sure if the threading is not right or if it just loosened up because of the difficulty I had using it on our floors. Finally, I gave up and put it back on its cooling pad. It's now in its box ready to ship back to Amazon. After talking with friends, I believe the Shark will be a better buy for my family. It might cost a bit more, but I'd rather get something that would work for my floors. I also would like something with a longer cord. This steamer barely let me do my kitchen with its tiny cord. I had to unplug it and replug it often during use. I did give it 3 stars, however, because while it wasn't the greatest purchase for my floors, it did leave them clean. I would think this type of steamer would be best used on tiled floors.
Doesn't Work Worth a &*^%$ September 8, 2010 Michael Nelson (San Francisco, CA United States) Just received this thing today. Followed the instructions and tried to clean my kitchen linoleum. Aside from being harder to push, this thing didn't do anything mopping with a damp mop wouldn't do. Very little dirt showed up on the pad, and I went through two tanks of water. Honestly, it did virtually NOTHING in the way of cleaning.
The swivel head doesn't swivel enough to allow you to turn it sideways for narrow areas (like next to a toilet). It won't clean next to baseboards. It doesn't remove food stuff that is stuck to the floor. Even moderately textured linoleum is too much for it to handle, as it just skates across the top.
I'm sending it back to Amazon for a refund. I have NEVER bought a product from Amazon before that I returned (and I have bought a LOT of stuff), but this thing is worthless. Further, reading the Amazon return policy (I never had before, because I have trusted Amazon for many many years), it looks like they may not even give me a full refund. If that turns out to be the case, then Amazon has seen their last dollar from me, as this product is so worthless they should not even be selling it.
Great steamer at a great value September 8, 2010 co2h2o (babylon by the bay) I did a lot of reading up on steamers and was on the fence between this one and another one until I saw A. Chandlers comprehensive review. That pushed me over the edge and I bought it. I hate mopping but I actually enjoy mopping with this because it goes quickly and does such a great job. It's amazing how much clean floors can brighten up the room. I have 3 kids, two of whom are currently toddlers and without a dog to clean up scraps on the floor, my floors are dirty most days of the week, no matter how much I spot clean.
The mop heats up fast, cleans a large area in a relatively short amount of time and usually on one tank of water, and is super easy to use. The cord is long enough to reach my entire kitchen, which is fairly large and all tile. When I run out of cord, I just unattach the cord from the hook and get a few more feet out of it. I never have to use more than one mop pad, which is convenient in case I haven't washed the pad yet from my last use.
I clean my glass top range and my counters as well. I just start there with a clean cloth, so I'm not transferring floor dirt to the stove and counters then work my way down to the floors. I can't say it any better than A. Chandler already has, but reiterate that I am so pleased with this purchase. I was all set to spend $500 one one of those canister, more industrial steam mops, and what a bullet I dodged by buying this one. I can think of a lot better things to do with the $400+ I saved.
One more thing: I don't recommend overfilling the tank. I did that once and water oozed all over the place once I got started. You can probably top it off without a problem, but don't overdo it!
Love this September 8, 2010 Melody Looking for an alternative to the old floor cleaning system. Thank you to the review posted by A. Chandler, 8/7/2009. This detailed review provided the information I needed and was previously unable to find. It was in the nick of time. Everything was spelled out clearly. I love steam cleaning my floors. It doesn't feel like a chore. My floors are clean and shiny. They are beautiful. I originally had doubts that steam could actually clean and sanitize. Well, I am pleased to announce that it works. The Eureka steamer is easy to use and gets the job done. Not too heavy and not too light. The price is right too. It is affordable and not a budget buster. It is also compact and doesn't require much storage space. If you're on the fence on this one...don't be. Take the leap and try it; you will not be disappointed.
Eureka 313A Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer September 6, 2010 Sylvia Smith I was expecting it to steam more than it does. I don't feel like it is cleaning as well as I expected because there is very little steam coming up from the sides of the machine.
